Challenges
Prior to the development of the Rigour+ platform, access to emergency healthcare in Africa was severely hindered by fragmented services, slow ambulance response times, and the widespread circulation of counterfeit medications—creating an urgent need for a unified, reliable, and digitally accessible health solution.
Research
For the design of the Rigour+ platform, I conducted extensive research through user interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis to understand healthcare gaps in Nigeria, focusing on emergency care, medication safety, and the digital accessibility of services.
User Interviews: Talked to patients, doctors, pharmacists, and emergency responders to uncover pain points in accessing care, delays in ambulance services, and medication authenticity.
Surveys & Data Analysis: Distributed surveys to understand mobile health adoption, digital literacy, and user preferences; insights revealed 60%+ preferred mobile apps for healthcare, but needed offline support.
Competitive Analysis: Analyzed local and global health-tech solutions to pinpoint gaps in integrated services, user trust in medicine tracking, and emergency features.
Key Findings: Identified the need for speed in emergencies, transparent medication verification, and easy-to-navigate interfaces for users with varying tech literacy.
Design
The design of the Rigour+ platform was influenced by the need for a simple, accessible healthcare solution that prioritizes emergency response speed, ensures trust in medication authenticity, integrates diverse services like telemedicine and ambulance booking, and is culturally sensitive to the unique needs of users in Nigeria, with plans for broader African expansion.
Considerations were made for different categories of users on the platform, catering to enterprise establishments, doctors, patients, pharmacists and more via the web and mobile apps.
Outcome
After the design and development of the Rigour+ platform, the app significantly improved healthcare access across Nigeria, reducing ambulance response times by up to 30%, increasing user engagement by 40% within the first three months, and empowering over 100,000 users to authenticate medications and access telemedicine services with ease.
